Long Island Bookshops That Make Fall Reading Special | Laffey Real Estate

Jamie E. Davis, founder of Because All the Books, once declared, "Like squirrels gather nuts for winter, autumn signals my need to collect more books for the cold months ahead." Our real estate agents stock up on reading material at these wonderful bookshops around Long Island.

Top Long Island Bookshops for Fall Reading

The Next Chapter - Huntington, NY

Address: 204 New York Ave., Huntington, NY 11743

Does it take a village to raise a bookshop? In the case of The Next Chapter, the answer is a resounding "Yes!" Thanks to community members around Huntington homes for sale, The Next Chapter holds the distinction of being the highest-funded literary space in Kickstarter's history.

The Next Chapter also offers a calendar full of exciting events:

  • Live music
  • Book clubs
  • Children's story times

Hours are 9:30 a.m. - 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. - 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Sunday.

Theodore's Bookshop - Oyster Bay, NY

Address: 17 Audrey Ave., Oyster Bay, NY 11771

Theodore's Bookshop, named for the most notable figure to live near Oyster Bay homes for sale, is a proud member of the Gold Coast Forum. This non-profit organization promotes literature through discussion forums and educational events.

Politics is also in the background of the bookshop's founder. Steve Israel, who opened the store in 2021, is a former U.S. congressman who represented Long Island from 2001 until 2017.

Theodore's Bookshop is open 10:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. weekdays, 10:30 a.m. - 7 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday.

Turn the Page ... Again! - Bayside, NY

Address: 39-15A Bell Blvd., Bayside, NY 11361

A visit to Turn the Page ... Again! benefits more than your reading habit. The bookshop was opened in 2010 with a mission to offer job training and employment for individuals with a mental health diagnosis.

Viewing Bayside homes for sale? Plan a stop to shop their wide selection of gently-used books for kids, teens, and adults.

Hours are 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Sunday.

Book Culture - Long Island City, NY

Address: 26-09 Jackson Ave., Long Island City, NY 11101

For owner and co-founder Chris Doeblin, Book Culture is the culmination of a decade working at bookstores in NYC. Chris and then-partner Cliff Simms took the leap into entrepreneurship and opened the first Book Culture in the Morningside Heights neighborhood of Manhattan.

In 2017, the fourth Book Culture was established right down the street from Long Island City homes for sale. Pick up one of their gift items for yourself or a friend:

  • T-shirts
  • Tote bags
  • Jewelry

Book Culture is open 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. daily except Sunday and Monday, when doors close at 8 p.m.

The Dog-Eared Bard's Book Shop - East Northport, NY

Address: 250 Larkfield Rd., East Northport, NY 11731

A trip to The Dog-Eared Bard's Book Shop, just minutes from East Northport homes for sale, has been compared to a treasure hunt. The whimsically-named store is so beloved that locals stepped up to donate when it was time for owners James and Jillian Wagner to renew the lease.

Here are a few of the activities that make this used bookshop so popular:

  • Fill-a-tote-bag book sales
  • Children's book fairs
  • Antiquarian and vintage book shows

Hours are 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and noon - 6 p.m. Sunday.
